5 ways to AVOID the cold/flu season, naturally.

Are you tired of being sick? And just as you get over it, it comes back again?? The 24hr flu lasting weeks? The common cold lasting a month or turning into pneumonia or other infections?

I do not intend on giving a guaranteed formula. It is impossible to completely avoid being sick. We all will get sick. It is unavoidable. However, when you do get sick…

  • It doesn’t have to last as long…
  • It does not have to be as severe…
  • It does not have to be as often…
  • You can have such a more vibrant life!

I believe that you can minimize your chances of getting sick significantly when these 5 steps are implemented.

As a paramedic, I see the hospital ER’s overflowing with patients each year during flu season and beyond. So much so that ambulances have to wait with their sick patients in the hallways until a bed becomes available! I don’t know if there was ever a health crisis as we have today since the 1918 flu outbreak?!

What’s the answer?

Our society today seems to blame the health care system for lack of resources to meet the growing need.

  • Not enough doctors?
  • Not enough care and treatment facilities?
  • Not enough vaccines?

And these are true. However, they are not the root problem. We seem to be so focused or brainwashed that these are the answers!? That “IF” this list was met then we would have less problems, a more healthy society and less crowded hospitals. Would we though?

The above list IS needed and we should work towards improving our health care system. BUT I strongly believe that we need to get down to the root problem. It is being avoided. Stop putting bandaids over the problem and heal from underneath.

No matter what we do to improve our system, the population will continue to get sick and continue to come back to flood the system. Our system is and will continue to be overworked and stressed because we are not addressing the root problem.

We need to promote and educate how to live a healthy life! How to be healthy and stay healthy! Prevention! People can have such better quality of life if we could get out of the deadly cycle of..

  • Addictions…
  • Sugar…
  • Processed and fast food…
  • etc…

Today you have to look very hard to find help and to know what you can do at home in your own day to day life to improve your health in a healthy natural way.

Education, promotion and prevention is needed on how you can live a healthy life and people need help to do it! Everybody needs somebody. Yes conventional medicine is needed but Doctors do not have the time or training to help people live a healthy life day in and day out. 5 Things you can do to have a better chance at preventing the cold and flu season NATURALLY.

Again, this is what I have done and noticed great results! When I feel a cold coming on I do these 5 things. And I either don’t get sick or if I don’t catch it in time then it is not as bad lasting only a few days.

5. Essential Oils

Pure oils made from plants, trees, raw food. You can diffuse them to clean the air and help your cells to stay healthy. You can apply it topically or diluted in water to drink. Also, you can put the oils in veggie caps to take internally. These are very effective.

You can see things like pain or headaches improve quickly. Coughing and congestion stopped and cleared especially helping kids sleep at night. Digestion issues resolved… There are so many symptoms that can be helped naturally with essential oils.

But also my family uses it for prevention. Essential oils help boost the immune system and if I feel a cold coming on I take extra and it usually helps to stop those first sick feelings.

*When I feel a cold coming on I put drops of ginger, oregano and turmeric into a glass of water to drink. My wife will put the drops into a veggie cap to swallow. I do this morning and night.

4. Viamins C and D

We need all letters of the vitamins… But I have specifically noticed these 2 have helped me during the flu season and it makes since as to why.

  • Vitamins help our cells absorb nutrients.
  • Vitamin C is full of antioxidants that can protect us from illness. 
  • They help cell growth, repair and producing energy.
  • Supporting the immune system and hormonal balance.
  • Helps our digestive health.
  • Among many other things…

We do not get enough vitamins (specifically these 2) and many of us are deficient allowing sickness. It is said that we are more deficient this time of year because we are not outside in the sun getting the vitamin D compared to other climates that don’t have the cold climate. And it makes since.

*Through the winter I will take these vitamins daily. When I feel cold symptoms coming on I will take 3-6 tablets. You don’t need to be afraid of taking too many vitamins. Most of us are deficient to begin with.

3. No Sugar or processed food

For me (and every body will be different) these last 3 are just as important and one without the other will not have positive results.

If I eat my fair share of sugar and processed foods, almost immediately after I don’t feel good at all. Once you know how good your body can feel and once your body gets used to you playing by the rules and giving it’s cells what they need, THEN you really notice how bad you feel after eating junk and you won’t want to eat it.

I now know my bodies limits. And you need to get to know yours. I know if I eat sweets a few days in a row, then I have a good chance of getting sick. Eating sugar and processed food always has a huge negative effect on my body. So much so that I avoid it as much as I can.

Now that I know how good I can feel… I just don’t want to go back.

2. Adequate sleep

Sleep affects me probably just as much and if not more than the above. Each of you need to find out what works for you. Find out how much sleep you actually need to function. For me, I need a solid 8 hours.

Your cells that form your tissues, muscles and organs need rest. The busy lives you live cause a lot of stress on your body. Please don’t underestimate rest.

I get sick when I don’t get the sleep I need. And for me with shift work it is tough. Sugar and no sleep is a guaranteed combination for getting sick. If I don’t get enough sleep I try to make it up sometime during the day and I find that has recently helped tremendously.


1. Green vegetable juice or powder

Yes, you all know… You need to eat your vegetables! You don’t need to be a vegan but you do need to have a plant based diet. I mean a diet with the majority of whole raw food.

Your cells need to be fed the right food with the right nutrients. If not they will be deficient and toxic. Vegetables and fruits have exactly what your body needs to be thrive.
