The pigment betacyanin in this root vegetable is what gives it its dark red / purple colour. From that, comes the antioxidant betalain that has been shown to be specifically helpful for fighting against inflammation to colon cancer which I will talk about further on.

The American heart association says that 1 cup of beet juice daily can lower high blood pressure by 10 points! It has only 59 calories and 3.8g of fiber which is 15% of your daily needed fiber (if eaten raw)!

Obviously it is great to eat them but when beets (or any vegetables) are also juiced, the fiber is removed allowing them to be highly concentrated and readily available!

Beets can be a great way to limit inflammation! The betalains in beets are said to lower blood pressure and inflammation throughout the body.

Inflammation is the body’s normal response to fighting against infections and anything in the body that shouldn’t be there. Sometimes however, the body may reject food and inflammation that may come from an environmental trigger, as in certain allergic reactions. 

Inflammation is at the root of most diseases. In this study they found that certain foods and exercise consistently improve cancer and other conditions resulting from chronic inflammation.

Eat a diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, limit sugar, refined, modified and processed foods.

3. Raw Beets are high in fiber 

Fiber is so important today and I think we underestimate its benefits. You absolutely need fiber for nutrients to be properly digested, absorbed, assimilated, utilized and then eliminated. 

  • It regulates digestion
  • Feeds gut bacteria 
  • Allows nutrients to be absorbed
  • Cleans the intestinal walls 
  • Helps move things along

Fiber is like the oil for your gut and digestion. Without it your gut cannot function properly. 

Beets are a great source of fiber when eaten raw! They have 3.8grams per cup. That is 15% of your daily needed amount! 

Today the average intake is around 10grams. You need 25-35grams per day! This is why the majority of people struggle with digestive and gut problems. 

Your bowel is where the majority of your immune system lies. It is the main organ that cleans your body. If the bowels are not in shape then other organs can become damaged. 

In this study, fiber has been shown as a way better option to resolve constipation than any medication, laxative or placebo (which affects more than 20% of the world and rising).

I think the shape and colour of beets gives this one away. Beets benefit your heart in so many ways! This is where beets shine most when juiced because its nutrients are readily available and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream for a boost of nutrition! 

First, as we mentioned before, that beets have the phytonutrient/antioxidant (nutrients from plants that protect the plants from environmental damage) betalain. 

Betalain eliminates toxins and especially reduces ones like homocysteine that are linked to damaging blood vessels, causing clots and atherosclerosis leading to heart disease.
